New Three-Year Plan for Immigration to Canada Revealed
The Canadian federal government has made known its plan to allow for a massive movement of immigrants into Canada. The goal is to see 500,000 people arrive in the country annually by 2025. With this, the country is hopeful of solving its critical labor shortage.
Thankfully, the plan was welcomed by industry groups and many more. But, despite that, there were questions about whether this is an achievable goal. The questions about the goal are due to the large backlog of applications at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
According to Canada Immigration Express, the goal is achievable, looking at the measures put in place to hasten the immigration process to Canada.
Categories of People the Government Seeks to Admit in High Numbers
According to Sean Fraser, Immigration Minister in Canada, the government is placing greater emphasis on admitting more permanent residents with needed work experience and skills. Also, there is an average target for family members and refugees.
In 2021, about 405,000 permanent residents were admitted. The plan for 2023 is to welcome about 465,000 and raise the number to 500,000 in 2025. Canada Immigration Express stated that most of the new arrivals would be economic immigrants. They will be so-called because they are expected to fill some of the almost one million jobs currently vacant in the country.
Immigration – A Major Part of the Canadian Economy
Sean Fraser says Canada cannot maximize its economic potential without embracing immigration. This statement is proved true as there are a million jobs available in the Canadian economy at a time when immigration accounts for most of the country’s labor force growth.
