Calgary Rodeo Is the Venue for Canadian Citizenship Ceremony
Newcomers in Canada are always familiar with the popular stadium, Calgary Rodeo. This is because the BMO Amphitheatre in Stampede Park serves as the venue for the citizenship ceremony of the newest citizens of Canada.
The first in-person citizenship ceremony after the Covid-19 pandemic was held at the same venue in July this year. The oath of citizenship was administered the Sean Fraser, the Federal Citizenship Minister. Carol-Ann Hart, a judge, was also present at the occasion.
Canada Immigration Express reported that 26 people took the oath and became Canada’s newest citizens that day. From the reports, the 26 individuals stood with raised hands, and some waved small Canadian flags in their other hands. Fraser read the oath in English and French, and they all repeated it after him.
Canada – A Country of Great Diversity
The judge addressed the new citizens at the Citizenship Ceremony. He stated that the strength of Canada is diversity, and Canadians generally are known for unity. Also, he encouraged the new citizens to help build a stronger and more vibrant Canada for the future.
The ceremony featured comments from Blackfoot elders Gerald and Laura Sitting Eagle. The new citizens sang Canada’s national anthem at the end of the ceremony with the Calgary Stampede Showband and one singer from the Young Canadians.
"Also, he encouraged the new citizens to help build a stronger and more vibrant Canada for the future."
