Hundreds of Rescued Syrians Will Move to Canada
Canada is one of three nations that will accept over a hundred volunteer emergency workers and their families that Israeli soldiers rescued from Syria in a dramatic international rescue. Volunteers of the White Helmets and their families were saved under cover of night from the southwestern part of the country.
This was Israel’s first intervention in the lengthy civil war. The rescue was a result of a request by US President Donald Trump. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he knew these people had saved lives, and now their lives were in danger, so he approved passage through his country as a humanitarian gesture. Canadian officials worked with the UN officials to process the families as soon as possible. The government accepted up to 50 of the volunteers and their families which will be over 250 people. These families will follow the path of thousands of other Syrian refugees who were resettled in Canada. Britain and Germany also agreed to help in the process, and other countries are expected to join the efforts.
