Canada’s Largest Solar Power Plant to Create 1,000 New Jobs
Over 1,000 jobs will be added to the economy in Canada from the largest solar panel project in southern Alberta. The project will include 1 million solar panels that will sit on a plot the size of 1,600 football fields.
The panels will produce power to operate 150,000 houses. Travers Solar is still under construction and should be complete by the end of 2022. Dan Balaban, CEO of Greengate, said Travers Solar is the largest solar energy project ever in Canada and ranks as one of the largest in the world.
3,330 Acres of Land Near Lomond
The solar project is being built in the heart of oil country, which is fantastic according to Balaban. He noted the gas and oil industry will be an important part of the Canadian economy for the foreseeable future. But he did note it is imperative the economy is diversified.
Canada has some of the best onshore wind across the globe and some of the best sunshine is found in Alberta. Development of the project began in 2017 on about 3,330 acres of land near Lomond.

Southern Alberta experiences over 300 days of sunshine. The solar resources in Alberta is comparable to the solar resources in Florida for producing electricity. The project will generate energy over more than 35 years.
The project will make a considerable difference to the environment as well as the economy, said Balaban.
